Jacob – self-promotion, revenge, disregard for others
Jacob summarizes his life - "Pharaoh said to Jacob, “How many years have you lived?” So Jacob said to Pharaoh, “The years of my sojourning are one hundred and thirty; few and unpleasant have been the years of my life, nor have they attained the years that my fathers lived during the days of their sojourning.” " Gen. 47:8-9unpleasent - 1a bad, disagreeable, malignant. 1b bad, unpleasant, evil (giving pain, unhappiness, misery). Jacob was a self-centeredness person.
Joseph
Joseph was a God centered person. Gen. 39:9; 41:16; 41:50-52; 45:5-9; 50:20
Because Joseph was a God-Centered Person, he was a grace giving person.
Joseph’s Grace -
1. He took the initiative. Gen. 45:1-4 2. He saw the hand of God in the situation. Gen. 45:5-9; 50:20 Accepts what God has done/allowed instead of questioning or being angry about it.
3. He was realistic about the wrong/situation. (Gen. 50:20) He tests them before restoring the relationship. How many times does God refer to our sin, our sinfulness or call us sinner? 4. He transferred the “right of revenge” to God. Gen. 50:19 He forgave them long before he saw them. (Gen. 41:50-52)
5. He helps them heal. Consoles them. Gen. 50:21; 45:5 (Ps. 23:4; Is. 40:1) It carries the idea of change in a relationship.
6. He did good for his brothers. He stopped the revenge cycle. (Jacob reacted to them) Offers them the best Gen. 45:9-10 Offers to take care of them. Gen. 45:11
This is also how can you tell that you have forgiven someone.
And this is how God forgave us.
